911 service for multiple states including parts of Nevada, Texas, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, and Wisconsin, as well as parts of Nebraska and all of South Dakota was disrupted Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

According to Cherry County Emergency Management Director Jessica Coyle, in Cherry County the 911 disruption only affected callers from a single unnamed cellular service provider.  All other 911 calls were able to go directly to the Cherry County Dispatch Center.  Those who were calling from the affected carrier were still able to call 911, however the call would have been re-routed to another 911 center.  This disruption affected Cherry County from approximately 9:30 Wednesday night until 1:30 Thursday morning.

There is no word from any official sources what led to this emergency service disruption.
