Valentine Economic Director Mark Hagge was our guest on the KVSH Comment program Wednesday morning and reported that the city expects to break ground on two new housing projects in April. The affordable housing grant will fund three total houses, but they will start with building just 2, then do a third after the first ones sell. The houses would be 1,400 square feet with unfinished basement and a one car garage. The maximum selling price will be $273,000 each. Hagge also reported that they are ready to launch a way-finding project that would help direct people to various points of interest in the community such as museums, city offices, schools and tourist destinations. The first year of the community leadership class has wrapped up with 10 people completing the course. There are plans to hold a second class which will be discussed at an upcoming wrap up meeting. Businesses are also reminded that the facade grants are still available through the economic development program. The city will grant up to $8,000 grants to match businesses that want to improve the outside look of their building. The grants do not cover signage, but will cover windows, doors, awnings and more.
