There were multiple fires North of North Platte and West of Stapleton areas Monday. The first fire North of North Platte started about 10”30 and burned ground in Lincoln, Dawson and apparently into Custer County. It appears that it burned well over 1,000 acres and forced several
evacuations. Two dozen fire departments responded. Two National Guard Helicopters were to arrive on Tuesday. About 3pm a fire was reported West of Stapleton. The fire reportedly started at the Boy ranch 7.5 miles west on highway 93. It jumped highways pushed along by high winds. There were unconfirmed reports of loss of buildings and property. Firefighters from Valentine, Cody, Kilgore and Thedford all responded to help.
