The Valentine Volunteer Fire Department responded to the report of a grass on Sunday afternoon. Kilgore also responded to this blaze, staying on scene for about 90 minutes. This fire on the Steve Shelbourn place is thought to have been started by hot ashes from a wood burning stove. The fire was near a couple structures, but crews were able to keep the flames from reaching any buildings. The fire was located just north of the Nebraska/South Dakota state line.
