Another big cat sighting was reported to the Valentine Police Department on Thursday morning. The latest sighting was unconfirmed, but reported a possible mountain lion to the Lakeshore Drive area on the north end of Valentine. Valentine Police responded to the area, but found no evidence of the cat.
It appears that the current plan from Nebraska Game and Parks is to place additional trail cameras to get more information about the situation. Game and Parks biologists are interested in learning, for example, how many of the big cats are in the immediate area.
Once more information is gathered, the next step would be to begin an attempt to motivate the mountain lions to voluntarily migrate out of the area. If the animals are determined to be a threat to people or property, they may need to be put down.
