The Cherry County Commissioners have announced a joint public hearing concerning the proposed property tax increases.  The meeting will be held on September 18th at 6:30pm at the Valentine Public Library Meeting Room to gather public input.  The property tax request is $4,609,450.  This represents an increase of roughly $105,000.

This represents an increase of 5.9%.  State statute allows an increase of 2% plus allowable growth, thus making this process necessary.

The commissioners claim this increase is necessary to pay for a $550,000 road repair bond needed in response to flooding caused by the 2019 disaster.

There is no other agenda item for this joint public meeting other than discussion of each political subdivision’s intent to increase its property tax request by this rate.  The meeting is open to the public.  If accommodations are needed by anyone with a disability, please contact the Cherry County Clerk’s office at 402-376-2771 at least 48 hours prior to the meeting.
