Cherry County has updated its countywide regulations, and will be holding several open houses to gather input from folks from around the area.  According to Zoning Administrator Jessica Coyle, the State of Nebraska requires counties to update their zoning policy at least every ten years.  It has not been updated since being implemented in 2000.

There will be representatives from the Planning Commission as well as consultants available at these open houses allowing members of the public to interact with the commission, and get information about the proposed changes.

Administrator Coyle stated that most of these changes are needed to put the county in-line with state statutes in regards to solar and wind production, and other changes.

The open houses will be held August 30 and 31st around the are, including Wednesday the 30th at the Thomas County Fairgrounds in Thedford at 9am, CT and at 2pm, CT at the City Library in Valentine.  Two more open houses will follow on Thursday the 31st at 9am MT at Nenzel Community Hall, and 2pm, MT at the Winter’s Building in Hyannis.

Everyone is invited to these open houses to offer their public input on the proposed Cherry County Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Regulations updates.  If you have any questions, you are asked to direct them to the Zoning Administrator’s office during regular business hours.
