Our business of the week on KVSH Radio this week takes a closer look at Scotty’s Ranchland Foods in Valentine. According to owner Scott Millard, Scotty’s Ranchland Foods opened for business February 19, 1979 on the corner of 2nd and Cherry Street in Valentine where the grocery business continued until the opening of the newer, larger store at the newly built location on Highway 20 in 2009. Scotty says that he chose Valentine because of the outdoor recreational opportunities that Cherry County provided. He started his store in Valentine in partnership with his parents who had been in the grocery business in Leigh, NE before moving to Valentine. Scott says that it’s a family tradition at this point, as his grandparents were also grocers, who owned a store in Akron, IA.
Today, the business continues to supply “butcher shop fresh meats and farm to market fresh fruits and vegetables”, as well as a full deli and large frozen foods section. Scott is particularly proud to supply meat and other groceries to many of the area restaurants in the region, and looks forward to serving the area with all their grocery needs for years to come.
