The Valentine Police Department restricted public access to a small area in the 200 block of North Victoria Street last evening. What was thought to be an old stick of dynamite was reported to police around 6pm. The State Patrol Bomb Technician from Scottsbluff reviewed pictures of the item and determined it was actually an old road emergency flair that was deteriorated and began to crystallize. Some citizens in the immediate vicinity of the suspected explosive devise were asked to evacuate as a precaution and others were asked to shelter in place. Later the police gave the all clear. Valentine Fire Department and Cherry County EMS were on standby.
