BIA Fire Department was called out to the report of a grass fire in the Grass Mountain area near St. Francis, South Dakota on Sunday, July 23rd at about 4:30pm.  Multiple area fire departments were also called for mutual aid assistance, including Kilgore, Rosebud, Mission, and Parmalee.  All assisting fire units were released from the scene at around midnight.  As of Monday, BIA Fire Department had stated that the fire was fully encircled with some smoke coming from the interior of the fire lines, but that they “weren’t going anywhere”.  There will be a handful of trucks and personnel on hand for mop up work and to watch for any flare-ups.  Overall, it is estimated that roughly 20 acres were burned in this weekend’s blaze.
