About 50 people turned out for a special ceremony honoring Valentine Police officer Jasmine Hoefs Tuesday afternoon at the Cherry County Justice Center courtyard. Officer Hoefs was injured in an accident last December while assisting other EMS personnel with an emergency situation. Since that injury she has undergone 19 surgical procedure’s to repair injuries. Recently Hoefs returned to light duty with the department.

The program Running For Hero’s, an organization that honors fallen emergency personnel across the country, selected Jasmine as the July recipient of the honor. Zechariah Cartledge, founder of the organization, presented a $10,000 check to Jasmine and then led runners through the Valentine City Park to honor fallen hero’s in Nebraska. The Valentine PD took the opportunity to present a law enforcement Purple Heart to Jasmine during the event as well.
