According to an article in this weeks edition of the Valentine Midland News, after 72 years of being Missing in Action, the remains of PFC Dale Thompson are being returned to Valentine. Dale enlisted in the Army in 1950 and was reported MIA January 26th of 1951.
During a Summit meeting in 2018 between President Trump and Chairman Kim of North Korea, it was agreed that 55 boxes of remains were to be turned over to the US. Through DNA testing the remains of Dale Thompson were identified. Private Thompson’s remains are schedule to arrive in Omaha around 12:30 on Tuesday the 27th. Family members will keep KVSH Radio informed as they make there way back to Valentine Tuesday evening.
A public memorial service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery on June 30th at 11AM. Dale was the oldest of three children born to Earl and Mabel Thompson.
