Senator Brewers bill to provide for carrying of concealed handguns without a permit, passed final reading today on a 33 to 14 vote in Lincoln. This bill would also change provisions relating to concealed
weapons, and prohibit certain regulation of weapons by cities, villages, and counties. At least 25 other states have passed such laws. In Nebraska, it will allow people to carry a concealed weapon without obtaining a $100 state permit, undergoing a criminal background check and passing a gun safety class. Governor Pillen has indicated that he will sign the bill. It is still recommended to take a safety class if you are unfamiliar with hand guns. There will be an introduction to firearms class at Mid Plains Community College in Valentine on May 13th and again on July 8th. Call Mid Plains College at 402 376 8033 to sign up.
