A strong market on Thursday at Valentine Livestock Auction. Overall the market was reportedly 5 to 10 dollars higher than the last feeder cattle sale. Bigger cattle were 10 dollars higher or more. After we concluded our live report on KVSH, there were steers that brought over $3 per pound. Black steers from The Burdick Ranch of Wood Lake, brought $3.04 per pound at 426 pounds. That comes out to almost $1,300 per head. The 508 pound steers brought $3.01 per pound. While these prices seem pretty high, many producers had a higher production cost due to the drought last year and buying winter feed.
