On Friday KVSH learned that the McCann Canyon Fire South of Kilgore is now 90% contained and estimated at slightly over 7,000 acres burned.

2 National Guard Helicopters arrived on the scene Wednesday to add aerial support to the fire fighting effort. Thursday’s and Fridays cooler weather with a little rain helped efforts.

The fire broke out early Tuesday afternoon and was pushed out of the canyons by high winds. Local volunteers with everything from grass fire fighting rigs to bulldozers and disc plows aided in the fire suppression effort.

There have been no injuries reported at this time. Four homes were threatened but all were protected from the wildfire. Area citizens provided bottled water, drinks and food for the firefighters.

3 Fires broke out South of Brewster Nebraska on Thursday and some crews that were helping with the Kilgore Fire we dispatched to help with those wildfires. Reports to KVSH indicated those fires burned

on the Cooksley and McGinn ranches.  It looks like there were cattle losses and at least one home.
