The Christmas weekend brought several calls to emergency crews for multiple motor vehicle accidents, prompting the Cherry County Sheriff’s Deputies and Valentine Volunteer Fire Department to respond Friday evening to the report of a pickup that had rolled and caught fire just north of Valentine on Highway 83. Radio reports indicated that all occupants had gotten out of the vehicle safely, but the pickup and emergency crews on scene blocked traffic for up to an hour before returning to the fire hall. Then on Christmas Night, the Valentine Volunteer Fire Department, Cherry County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Cherry County Hospital Ambulance Service were paged-out to the report of a one vehicle rollober west of Crookston, near German Settlement turnoff on Highway 20. Again, travel on the highway was blocked while crews worked the scene. No official word on the condition of those involved in that accident. On Monday afternoon at 3:00pm a 2 vehicle accident happened south of the ‘Y’ on highway 83.

As we progress from the winter storms from the last two weeks, keep in mind that many area highways and roadways are still trecherous with slick snowpack and ice in spots. Please drive with heightened sense of caution.
