The Valentine area can expect a second wave of deer hunters this weekend for the final days of the season. The first weekend saw hundred of hunter in the area and the last weekend will be a few less. The trend has been for lower numbers of deer checked in at the Valentine State Fish Hatchery in Valentine. According to Game and Parks, as of Thursday there were 60 fewer deer checked in compared to last year. There were 590 in 2022, compared to 650 in 2021. There were only 257 deer checked in on this past Sunday night so there have been 333 checked in so far this week. The firearm deer season continues through this Sunday. Hunters have until mid day on Monday to check deer in.
