Last Friday was Veterans Day, but it was also a chance for Sandhillers to give back to their neighbors and area fire departments with a Sandhills Fire Relief event at the Thomas County Fairgrounds Event Center. There
was a live and internet auction, barbecue meal and evening entertainment, plus a cash bar. According to one of the event coordinators, Dr. McKenzie Beals from the Broken Bow Animal Hospital, there were over 400 meals served, and at this time, at least $70,000 raised, with more auction bids being counted. Dr. Beals stated that they had hoped to raise $25-30,000, so she was very pleased with the turnout. Money will be distributed to area fire departments and ranchers. To make a monetary donation, send it to Custer County Foundation, P.O. Box 304 Broken Bow Nebraska 58822 or Nebraska Cattlemen Disaster Fund, 4611 Cattle Drive, Lincoln, NE 68521.
