Several area fire departments assisted Purdum Fire Department in
extinguishing a grass fire that was first reported at about 2:15 on
Friday.  Valentine, Wood Lake, Thedford, Halsey and Dunning all assisted
as well as a couple planes that attacked the fire from the air.  According
to Purdum Fire Chief Dave Maseck  (Moss-ick), these efforts kept the fire
to about a section of grass, getting the blaze out at 4:30.  Valentine
Volunteer Fire Department was called out to the fire, located just off of
Highway 83 at mile marker 161 on East Calf Creek Road at about 3, and
returned to the fire hall at about 5pm.
