The burn ban that was issued this past summer in Cherry County will continue indefinitely, according to Cherry County Emergency Management Director Matt Sandoz. “We’re over 9 inches under the average, and the forecast doesn’t look very good looking ahead” said Sandoz, regarding his recent conversation with meteorologists with the National Weather Service in North Platte. “Other counties in the area are as much as 11 inches under the average.” Dry conditions are still expected going into the next few months, with forecasters expecting a dry, cold winter.
