Appearing on the KVSH Comment program, Sandhills Cancer Fund
representative Berniece Rhoades announced that they have canceled their
fall ride event due to drought conditions in the area. Normally held the
last Saturday in September based out of Johnstown.
The Sandhills Cancer Fund covers a 10 county area of North Central
Nebraska and helps an average of 60 patients per year who are battling
cancer. So far this year the fund has given out over $28,000 in grant to
help with travel expenses for those fighting cancer. In 13 years the fund
has awarded over $330,000 in help. A person can apply every six month
while they continue to battle. Information is available at area
hospitals.
Since they will not be holding a fund raising event this year, tax
deductible donations can be dropped off at Union Bank and Trust, Security
First Bank and Ward Plumbing and Heating in Valentine.
On November 3rd they will auction off a hand made wooden semi hay
hauler truck, made and donated by Swede Lolley, at Valentine Livestock.
