The Valentine Volunteer Fire Department has been taking part in multiple training sessions this summer going over various fire and rescue applications. According to Cort Fowler, this training schedule is geared to get some of the new guys up to speed, as well as keeping the veteran members of the department well-practiced at various fire and rescue skills. On Tuesday evening, 20 plus Valentine firemen worked north of Cherry Hills Estates on the Northeast part of town to conduct a rope rescue training. In this scenario, fire and rescue personnel worked to retrieve a fictional hiker with a broken leg and bring the victim up the canyon-side to safety. The Valentine Volunteer Fire Department plans to continue with some high angle practices in a few weeks, working in canyon and riverside areas to help prepare for any rescue scenarios that may require their services in the future.
