Cody Fire Department was called out to a fire on grassland south of Cody, owned by Brian Sheets, Monday evening around 6pm central time, 5pm mountain time. According to Cody Fire Chief Jordan Pitkin, the fire was ignited by sparks from either a transformer or power lines and burned approximately 50 acres. Pitkin stated that fire crews were helped in containing the fire by a county road on the north side of the fire that acted as a fire line.
Kilgore Fire Department was also paged out to this fire for mutual aid in an abundance of caution, but was turned around before arriving on scene.
