American Legion Members will be out this week (May 23-27) taking donations for poppies. They will be at Scotty’s Ranchland Foods and Henderson’s IGA on Thursday, May 26th from 4-7 pm taking donations for poppies. Friday is National Poppy Day.
The American Legion Auxiliary Leo Brinda Unit #90 would like to invite the public to the annual crowning of Little Miss Poppy at Mt. Hope Cemetery on Friday, May 27 at 6:00 pm CT. The short ceremony will be held by the flags. Following the crowning, the American Legion Family invites the public to help place crosses, flags and poppy wreaths on Veteran graves, starting at approximately 6:30 pm CT. The crosses and flags will be collected on Monday evening, May 30 at 6:00 pm CT. The Memorial Day program will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery on Monday, May 30 at 10:00 am CT.
KVSH Radio will be broadcasting a short Memorial Day Program from the outgoing and incoming little Miss Poppy on Monday, May 20th at about 10:15 am CT.
Also, in related news, Mount Hope cemetery is in the process of adding 3 columbariums. A columbarium is a unit used to house cremation remains. Cement work is presently being done with an expected delivery of the columbariums within the next month. Each columbarium will have niches which are sealed boxes for cremains. Families will now have the choice of purchasing a burial plot or niche.
