Correction to the news release dated 4/7/2022 in reference to the burglary in the 400 block of north Cherry Street. The Valentine Police Department unfortunately reported erroneous information regarding the burglary incident on 04/07/2022. The Valentine Middle School was at no time placed on “lockdown” status. They apologize for the error in reporting this information.

Reported Offenses:
On 04/04/2022 at 9:30 am, an officer was requested by the Valentine Community Schools to conduct a welfare check due to excessive truancy. Contact was made with the parent.
On 04/04/2022 at 11:40 am, an officer was requested to respond to the 300 block of north Wood Street in regards to a verbal dispute. No action was taken.
On 04/04/2022 at 2:15 pm, an officer investigated a report of a hit and run accident in the 300 block of north Main Street. No suspect has been identified.
On 04/06/2022 at 8:00 am, an officer received a report of a theft of personal property. No suspect has been identified.
On 04/08/2022 at 8:27 am, the Valentine Community Schools requested an investigation be opened regarding allegations of child abuse.
On 04/08/2022 at 12:36 pm, an officer was requested at Young’s Western Wear for a report of shoplifting. No suspect has been identified.
On 04/09/2022 at 8:30 pm, an officer responded to the 400 block of north Green Street in regards to a report of shots fired. No contact was made.
Arrests/Citations:
On 04/04/2022 at 12:10 pm, an officer responded to the Family Dollar regarding a shoplifter. A 34 year old South Dakota man was arrested on a felony warrant out of South Dakota and shoplifting.
On 04/05/2022 at 1530 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop near 3rd and Ray Streets. A juvenile male from Valentine was cited for a vehicle registration violation.
On 04/07/2022 at 6:55 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of west highway 20. A 53 year old South Dakota man was cited for a child safety seat violation.
On 04/07/2022 at 8:30 am, an officer responded to the 200 block of north Wood Street in regards to a stolen vehicle report. Suspects have been identified and all reports have been forwarded to the Cherry County Attorney.
On 04/08/2022 at 1:44 pm, officers were requested to respond to the 400 block of north Cherry Street in regards to a homeowner interrupting a burglary in progress. The homeowner reported the theft of firearms. Suspects fled west toward the southwest part of town. Citizens reported hearing shots being fired near the Cowboy Trail at Western Street. The Valentine Middle School was placed on lockdown as a precaution. 4 females and 1 male, all from Valentine, were arrested for burglary, assault by threatening with a firearm, terroristic threats and discharging a firearm.
On 04/08/2022 at 8:55 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop near 3rd and Cherry Streets. A 38 year old female from Valentine was arrested on suspicion of operating her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
On 04/09/2022 at 2:26 am, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of west B Street. A 30 year old female from Valentine was arrested on suspicion of operating her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
On 04/09/2022 at 6:24 pm, an officer responded to the 200 block of south Hall Street in regards to a domestic assault. A 30 year old South Dakota man was arrested for domestic violence.
On 04/09/2022 at 6:24 pm, an officer responded to the 400 block of north Green Street in regards to a disturbance. A 32 year old Valentine man was arrested on an active warrant.
