The Nebraska Department of Transportation held an informational meeting Thursday evening, to discuss the Valentine Main Street reconstruction project. A crowd of over 50 people attended with many asking questions. Darrell Lurz of Valentine will serve as the project manager for this construction.
Construction is set to begin on March 14th by Paulson Construction doing the work in three phases starting at the North end of Main St at 4th Street. Starting this spring, the first phase will be done from 4th street South to 3rd St beginning in March to mid summer. Then from 3rd St to A street from mid summer to fall. In 2023 work will be done from A street to the Highway 20 intersection. Cherry Street will be used for a detour during the construction periods.
Area businesses and some resident may need to find different parking options during the construction and detour. Access to Main Street from several points will remain a priority during construction and sidewalks in front of businesses will be maintained.
Valentine Economic Development is offering to pay for magnetic signs for businesses to post on their back entrances if they expect some customers to utilize those areas. NDOT is also preparing for construction on Highway 83 North from 4th St in Valentine to the Minnechaduza Bridge possibly in 2024.
