The Sandhills Area Foundation is dedicated to supporting education and has established a long standing tradition of providing college scholarships to students in the Cherry County area. The funds provide financial assistance to aid area students in successfully pursuing their educational goals. The scholarship applications can be found on their new website, sandhillsareafoundation.com , and the application deadline is March 1, 2021.

They announced an additional fund for 2021, the CapRock Scholarship , which will award five $2,000 scholarships. This scholarship is available to high school graduates, college students and non-traditional college students that live in Cherry County, or graduated from a Cherry County high school. John Schuele, Managing Partner, of CapRock Ranch Golf Course announced that “ The Kind World Foundation, along with his wife Mary are happy to start the CapRock Scholarship program for the benefit of post-secondary educational opportunities”.

Other scholarships are also available again this year: The Sandhills Area Foundation Scholarship is available to high school graduates, college students and non-traditional college students that live in Cherry County or graduated from a Cherry County school. The Chet Van Winkle Memorial Scholarship is available to a graduating senior and member of an athletic team from Valentine High School who plans to attend a trade school,The Ron Billings Memorial Scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Valentine High School who plan to attend a trade school, 2- year, or 4- year college/university. The Ted Weldon Memorial Scholarship is available to a graduating senior and member of an athletic team from Valentine High School who plans to attend a trade school, 2- year, or 4- year college /university or an institution offering a registered nursing degree.
