Valentine Community Schools had a report of high school student testing positive for COVID-19 last Friday. This report resulted in the cancellations of the Valentine vs. Chadron Football game on Friday evening, September 11, 2020. According to a letter posted on the school website and Facebook page, in accordance with the school planning process, the school requested the student to self-isolate. Their family and other close contacts are also asked to self-quarantine. This resulted in approximately 30-40 students being affected. No staff has been affected according to Superintendent Mike Halley. Mr. Halley urged people associated with the school to wear masks as that will reduce the number of people being asked to quarantine.
The schools continue to increase sanitizing practices and have hired additional staff to help. Anyone with questions about protocol during this pandemic is welcome to contact the administration. The district continues to work with North Central District Health Department to monitor the situation.
The JV game originally planned for Monday, September 14, 2020 has been canceled due to low numbers of players. The varsity football game scheduled for Friday, September 18th, 2020, against Winner, SD has also been canceled.
