Monday evening a severe thunderstorm moved through the Valentine area dumping nearly one inch of rain on the south edge of the city. The heavy rain caused street flooding on Cherry, Hall and Main Streets. It was a reminder of ongoing problems with storm sewer drainage in that area of town. The City of Valentine has applied for a grant through Central Nebraska Economic Development District to help rebuild a part of the storm sewer system in that area.  It will not alleviate all the street flooding, but it is another piece of a master plan to fix the problems. In the meantime, please avoid driving through those flooded areas when we recieve major rainfalls.
