The Cherry County Planning and Zoning Board met on Tuesday afternoon for a regular meeting.

During the meeting, the board voted to recommend approval of the Mercure Cattle Company campground permit which will now go to commissioners for consideration. The campground would include showers and RV hook ups.

The board also made a small condition of a permit for a new Viearo wireless tower south of Merriman. The permit was originally approved in 2015 but construction never took place. The applicant must resubmit a more legible cattle country easement with the zoning administration. This was recommended for approval as well.

John Schulee was present to discuss construction of a new golf course south of Valentine.  Apparently the previous construction permit for the property had expired.  No construction has started at this time.  The new golf club would provide about 30 jobs and increased tax revenue for the county.

After discussion, the board set a date for a public hearing on a proposed wind farm near Kilgore for June 4th at 2pm.  The hearing will most likely be at Valentine High School. This date is contingent on County Attorney Eric Scott providing an opinion on the application.
