UPDATE: The two people killed in this August 21st collision were Marcos A. Alvarado, age twenty, of Alliance, NE, driving a dark blue, 2009 Chevy Malibu and John C. Strinz, age 64 of Eagen, Minnesota passenger in a light green 2015 Honda CRV. They were killed instantly when the two vehicles collided.

Kathryn Rice, age 63, driver of the Honda CRV was taken to Cherry County Hospital as a result of her injuries.


According to Cherry County Sheriff Rusty Osburn, a two vehicle accident occurred around 7:25 am Monday morning, August 21st, approximately 2 miles west of Valentine on Highway 20. The eastbound vehicle from the Scottsbluff area had only one occupant, who was one of the fatalities. The westbound vehicle was from Minnesota and had two occupants, one of whom was killed in the crash. The other was transported to Cherry County Hospital for treatment of injuries. Sheriff Osburn stated that officials did not believe the accident was weather related, even though there was fog at the time. The cause is still under investigation and the identities of the victims were not released pending notification of relatives. Three ambulances were dispatched, along with the Valentine Fire Department and local law enforcement.
