On Saturday, June 3rd, people across the nation will hit the Nations trail for recreation or maintenance. Our community has the opportunity for both types of activities.

At 10:00 AM, you can meet at the county road going through Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge to hike to Stinard/Tyler Falls (2.5 miles east of the Visitor Center). Here you will hear the story of Lt. Cherry’s death and the subsequent naming of our county after him. Those that want more hiking and viewing of the Falls will hike to the river and hike back up to the Falls.

For those in the giving back mode, volunteers are needed to work on the trail at the bottom of Fort Falls. This will involve repairing some railings, retaining walls and erosion problems, so bring gloves and water. The project should take about an hour or so. Plan to arrive at 1:00 pm at the observation deck at the Fort Falls Trail Head.
