The post-season of the Badger Speech Team reached its culmination at district competition on Tuesday, March 14th in North Platte. When the final scores were tabulated, the team’s two seniors, Amos Utecht and Will Major, qualified for state competition.

Amos Utecht won the gold medal in entertainment speaking at the district tournament, and Will Major won bronze in humorous prose. These two will advance to the state meet in Kearney in these two events.

Will Major also placed 4th in persuasive speaking, followed by Utecht with 6th in extemporaneous. Sophomore Rita Woodraska placed 6th in serious prose, and juniors Kierra Gracey and Marisa Hutchinson placed 6th in duet acting.

Earning superior ratings for the day were freshman Athena Gourley in humorous prose, freshman Kaylee Vavra in serious prose, and junior Raelyn Adams in poetry.

Major and Utecht will compete at the Nebraska State Speech Meet on Thursday, March 23, in Kearney, Nebraska.
