June 30-July 6, 2019

On June 30 at 7:45 am, officers were called to the 300 block of North Victoria Street in regards to a felony level criminal mischief.  During the early morning hours, an unknown person severely damaged a home.  Anyone having information is encouraged to contact the department.

On June 30 at 3:30 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop for a young child standing on the center console unrestrained while the vehicle was in motion.  A 70 year old South Dakota woman was cited for the child safety restraint violation.

On July 1 at 5:50 pm, officers were requested to respond to the intersection of highway 20 and Main Street for a bicycle vs. Semi accident.  The bicyclist was not located.  Witnesses were unable to report where the bicyclist had gone or extent of injuries.

***Previously Released  On 07/02/19 at approximately 0730 hours, a 46-year-old Valentine man was arrested in relation to a May 2018 assault that resulted in serious bodily injury.  The assault  occurred in the 600 block of North Macomb Street.  The man has been charged with 1st degree assault for his role in the incident.  The arrest came following a yearlong investigation by the Valentine Police Department and  the Nebraska State Patrol.

Update to this story: according to Court Records, an arrest warrant was issued for Jansen Yarbrough on July 1, 2019 for assault in the first degree, a Class 2 Felony. A complaint was filed 7/1/19 on one count of assault for intentionally or knowingly causing serious bodily injury to Anthony Hughes on May 18, 2018. Yarbrough was released on a $5,000 cash bond. His first appearance is set for July 22, 2019 at 1 pm at the Cherry County Court Room. 

On July 2 at 11:13 am, a felony level theft was reported from the 100 block of east B Street. The theft was of furniture and home décor.   The public’s help is needed to identify a suspect. 

On July 2 at 4:30 pm, 3 unidentified subjects entered a local business.  One distracted the owner while the others fled with over $250 worth of merchandise.  Please contact department if you have any information that may lead to suspect identification.

On July 2 at 7:56 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop and found a 28 year old Valentine man was driving under suspension.  The driver was arrested and later posted bond and was released.

On July 2 at 5:45 pm, an officer was dispatched to a report of  a sexual assault.  The investigation is ongoing.
