The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) will hold a public information open house regarding proposed improvements to U.S. Highway 83 (US-83) in the City of  Valentine, Cherry County. The meeting will be held at the Niobrara Lodge, 803 U.S. Highway 20 (US-20), in Valentine, on July 17, 5:00-7:00 p.m.
The proposed project would reconstruct 0.64 miles of US-83 beginning at the north junction of US-83 with US-20 at mile marker (MM) 212.78, extending north to the junction of US-83 with Nebraska Highway 12 (N-12) at MM 213.36, then westerly along US-83/W. 4th Street for 0.06 miles to MM 213.42 in Valentine.
Construction could begin as early as spring of 2021 with completion anticipated by winter of 2022. Construction of the proposed project would be phased with segments closed and traffic detoured.
Temporary closures and detour routes would be controlled by appropriate traffic control. Additional information will be provided at the public meeting.
The proposed project would require the acquisition of additional property rights, which could include new right-of-way, control of access, permanent easements and/or temporary easements. Property owners who are impacted will be contacted once the final design has been established.
Personnel from NDOT will be present to answer questions and receive comments. Information regarding the proposed project will be made available on the NDOT website at
