Construction work is beginning this week on the Valentine Cowboy Trail Connection in the City of Valentine, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Wickett Construction of Valentine has the $699,446 contract, which includes grading, concrete pavement and signing. The city of Valentine is the owner of the project and will maintain the trail. Anticipated completion is August.
A DOT grant was written for this project about 6 years ago for the trail from the ballfield complex, past the hospital and fairgrounds to connect with the Cowboy trail. A major purpose for the trail was for recreation and safety of residents who walk that route on a routine basis.
Motorists are urged to drive cautiously through construction zones along Green Street.
