In a meeting that lasted a little over one hour on Tuesday, the Cherry County Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for a US Cellular tower near Wood Lake. Chad Skinner representing US Cellular, addressed the board as the agent for US Cellular along with Michele Roth. They presented information concerning the tower location, height and coverage area. There were concerns from the public about dark skies, landscape and environmental issues. The application was recommended for approval by the Cherry County Commissioners by unanimous vote.
The next planning and zoning meeting will be on March 5th at 2pm at the Valentine Library. The agenda shows that the main topic of discussion will be training on the duties and responsibilities of the board. It is believed that consultant Orville Stahr will help the board work on procedures of running the meetings and discuss other administrative duties.
